EagleUp Version 4 Released

by on Jul.20, 2011, under Misc

A model of a circuit assembly inside of a case, all designed within Google SketchUp

Big news today from Jerome Lamy as he has released the next version oh his EagleUp software, version 4.  EagleUp v4 makes taking your Eagle designed circuit board layouts into Google Sketchup a snap.  Once you have finished your Eagle layout design all it takes to have a 3D model is a quick run of an Eagle ulp and a quick execution of a Sketchup plugin.  Having your circuit layout in Sketchup is extremely useful for two big reasons.  One reason is that many people don’t realize how the 2D layout of parts  in Eagle really interact with one another in a 3D space.  The last thing you want is for your programming header to be obstructed by nearby large components.  Secondly, it also gives you the opportunity to design the case or surrounding structure of your project.  With everything drawn to scale, you can know if a pre-made case will fit or design your custom enclosure to have fabricated on a 3D printer.  Head over to the EagleUp page and try out this handy free program.

Why did we not know about this program earlier earlier? This would have also probably helped Lawrence out too.

@Clayton: I haven’t had a chance to get my hands dirty with this program (yet). If you do use it, please post your reactions here or in our forum!

Yeah, I’ll definitely look into it a little more. I just quickly ran it on a board that I had already developed, and while there where a bunch of missing components, it should be easy to make component models in sketchup. I’ll try to use it some more over then next few days.
